What are cats allergic to plants
Cats have a naturally limited ability to absorb and metabolize certain chemicals. The most common of these are the chemicals and components of plants. Cats have a higher sensitivity to plant components that have been chemically altered by humans. Cats are more sensitive to the chemicals present in plants not only because they are unable to metabolize them, but because they are also more sensitive to the effects of their ingestion. Some of the chemicals that are harmful to cats are listed in a table below.
Allergy to plants and herbs
Allergy to plants is not a new phenomenon. While the tendency to respond to plant materials has been well documented for centuries, it was not until the twentieth century that the subject gained great attention from researchers. The increased scientific scrutiny of human and animal responses to plants has led to the development of a new scientific field called parenteral nutrition (nutritional therapy).
Parenteral nutrition is used to give intravenous fluids to people who are unable to digest food. It is also used to treat people who are anorexic, bulimic, malnourished, and have other physical conditions that make it difficult to consume adequate calories.
The history of parenteral nutrition began in the early twentieth century with the first attempts to provide nutrition to severely malnourished children. The earliest forms of nutritional therapy were primarily focused on the use of milk and milk products.
In the 1950s and 1960s, parenteral nutrition was used to treat children with chronic diseases. For example, children with chronic inflammatory diseases were treated with plasma-based nutritional therapy. This therapy was used for the treatment of children with rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and other chronic inflammatory diseases.
In the 1960s and 1970s, nutritional therapy was used to treat children with malabsorption syndromes. The majority of these patients were children with cystic fibrosis and congenital enzyme deficiencies. In the 1980s, nutritional therapy began to be used to treat children with cancer.
Current research indicates that parenteral nutrition successfully treats many conditions. Parenteral nutrition has been widely used in Europe and in the United States for the treatment of patients with anorexia, bulimia, malnourished patients, and patients who were suffering from inflammatory diseases.
Allergies to plants are primarily caused by a hypersensitivity to the various components of plants.
Cat dander allergy is an allergic reaction caused when cats' dander combines with its urine and saliva. There is a misconception that allergic reactions are caused by your cat's fur. But in reality, it is their dander that is causing you to sneeze and itch. The underlying cause of cat dander allergies is explained by Dr. Rachel Barrack, DVM of Animal Acupuncture, who attributes the condition to Fel D1, a protein found in the saliva of cats. Read more

One company has made some progress applying CRISPR/Cas9 to cats. Success in taming cat allergies could bring good news for people whose allergies have nothing to do with cats. If any of the cat allergy–fighting measures prove safe and effective, they could be deployed against other allergens, especially airborne ones like pollen, dog... Read more
