While cats have a range of different personalities, most tend to spray when they feel threatened or when they feel the need to mark their territory.

Some cats can be random sprinters and also spray when they are startled.

Spraying is often associated with a male cat.

However, if your cat is spraying then they may be suffering from a medical condition.

If your cat is spraying, it’s best to seek advice from a vet as they can suggest a suitable treatment

How can I stop my cat spraying?

Cats spray for a number of different reasons, so there isn’t one universal solution.

Every cat is different, so it’s important to take on board why they’re spraying and what they’re trying to communicate.

If you don’t know what your cat is trying to communicate, it can be difficult to work out how to resolve the behavioural problem.

It’s best to seek advice from a vet or behaviourist who can recommend a suitable treatment plan.

If you have tried the following solutions to stop your cat spraying, and they haven’t worked, then you should consider seeking professional help.

Try putting cat spray in your cat’s food.

This can be effective for a number of different reasons including for temporary relief and to prevent your cat from spraying again.

This is particularly effective if your cat has just started to spray or is experiencing a bout of spraying behaviour.

Make the cat feel more secure by fitting the cat with a spray deterrent collar.

This can be a particularly effective solution if you have other cats in the house and you’re trying to prevent your cat from spraying them.

It can also be effective if your cat is unfamiliar with your house and doesn’t know where they can and can’t spray.

Try switching to a different type of food.

This can be particularly effective if your cat has a sensitive stomach and may not be able to tolerate cat spray.

So if you’re trying to prevent your cat from spraying, then you may want to try switching to a different type of food or have your cat checked out by a vet.

If your cat is spraying and you are concerned about your cat’s health, then it may be worth seeking advice from a vet or behaviourist to see if your cat is suffering from a medical condition.

If you have tried the above solutions and your cat is still spraying, then you should consider seeking professional help.
