What are cats tails used for

Cats use their tails as tools - they can be used to get above you and to swat at you, or to carry things and even as a tool to help them move around. Cats use their tails to monitor what might be threatening them. This can involve listening to sounds you and other cat may not notice. These are known as feline senses.

Cats use their tails to establish and maintain dominance. When your cat stands on his back legs, he's standing up to you and showing that he's the boss - and you need to mind your Ps and Qs.

When you pet your cat, his tail will often wag back and forth while he's getting more and more excited, which is why owners think that their cat likes being petted. This is not so. When a cat is in a really good mood, his tail will swish back and forth.
