What do cats need in their food
Cats are not strict carnivores the way many people think. They are strict frugivores, meaning that they need to have lots of fruits, vegetables and grains in their diet. A cat’s digestive system is made to digest a lot of food, so it is important to have lots of fiber in its food.
A cat’s diet should consist of:
Grains: Wheat, corn and rice
Vegetables: Carrots, broccoli and green beans
Fruits: Apples, bananas, blueberries, grapes, raspberries, cantaloupe and papaya
Meat: Beef, chicken and fish
Water: Cats need to drink plenty of water to avoid urinary tract infections. They need to drink water that is at least two parts water to one part of a cat food.
If your cat drinks too much water and then pukes, you may want to look at the ingredients of the food.
Prevention is the best way to keep your cat healthy. If your cat has a urinary tract infection, you can use cranberry juice and cranberry tablets to help lessen the symptoms. If your cat has been on antibiotics, it is important to keep them healthy by feeding them a healthy diet.
Cats have special dietary needs, and their bodies are not as strong as those of dogs. If your cat is eating too much meat and too much fresh meat or raw meat, you may be causing it to develop health problems.
If you are not sure what foods are best for your cat, talk with your vet or a nutritionist.

Although hyenas have a reputation for being scavengers it is only the striped hyena and the brown hyena that find most of their food this way. Read more
