What time do you feed your cat

“Usually at 9:00pm,” I replied.

“Oh well we’re off at 9:00 now and we’d like to come in and feed our cat then.”

“We’re closed. You missed it.”

“We could wait outside.”

“You could, I could, but I can’t. Not at 9:00pm.”

“Well we’ll be going then.”

“Okay, I’ll be closing the shop in five minutes.”


I closed the door and saw them walking away. The woman had been carrying a bag. I hoped that she wasn’t planning on coming back. I was sure they’d find a way to get in.

“So how was the show?” Oli asked.

“It was okay.”

“You were a little quiet.”

“I was watching the woman.”

“What woman?” Oli asked.

“The one with the braid.”

“What about her?”

“They just came in and wanted to feed their cat.”

“Oh, that one.”


“It’s okay. She doesn’t bite.”

“I know.”

“Well, what’s happening tonight?”

“I don’t know.”

“You never know.”

“You’re not going to go out with me, are you?”

“Why would I?”

“I don’t know. Just asking.”

“No. I’m not going out with you.”

“Oh, okay.”

“It’s not you. It’s me.”

“Oh okay.”

“It’s not that I don’t want to go out with you. I do. I just don’t want to go out with you, okay?”

“I want to go out with someone else.”

“I’m not being weird.
