Since everyone was explaining the difference between CAT5 and CAT6 cables and not the connectors (which was what was asked), I’ll explain the difference with the connectors. At first glance, they look the same as they are both 8P8C RJ45 connectors, when you look inside them though, they look different. With a CAT5/CAT5e connector, the wires line up in a straight row. CAT6/CAT6a (and CAT7 I think too) on the other hand, the wires are staggered in a zig zag pattern and include a plastic wire guide. Read more
